Frequently Asked Questions
About New Beginnings
What is the difference between the Ministry
Center and the Worship Center?
New Beginnings Ministry Center at
16508 Old Central Avenue is our main place of operation. It serves as
our official
mailing
address, provides office space to conduct administrative functions, and
serves as a meeting place for various kinds of ministry to take place.
The Worship Center is the building
adjacent to our Ministry Center at 16512 Old Central Avenue it is currently
under renovation and is scheduled to be open sometime
in the SPRING of 2007. This building will serve as our official location
for our weekly 10am Sunday morning worship service.
What activities and services at New Beginnings
are
available to non-members?
New Beginnings allows non-members to participate in
a variety of activities and events. You are also welcome to visit us
at our weekly Bible study and Sunday morning worship service as well
as our weekly Sunday school hour which starts @ 9am for people of all
ages. For more information feel free to get in touch with the primary
contact persons for these ministries listed the “Our Ministries” web
page. Pastoral counseling is also available by appointment.
What can I expect when I visit New Beginnings?
You can expect to be treated with love and kindness.
You can expect not to be required to say anything. You can expect not
to be pressured to become a member. Childcare is also available for kids
between the ages of 18 months to 3 years of age during the Sunday morning
worship service.
What is the make-up of the congregation?
We at New Beginnings believe that God is no respector
of person (Acts 10:34-35) and people of all ages and races are welcome
to attend our church. The economic, ethnic and median age group of the
church is reflective of the community in which it has been called to
serve, the Mitchellville-Bowie area of Prince George's County Maryland.
New Beginnings is currently a small (under 200 members), predominantly
African-American, congregation consisting of people in all age groups.
How long are your worship services?
New Beginnings makes every effort to have services that are conducted
in a decent and orderly manner but at the same time provide an atmosphere
where the presence of God is felt and is allowed to move freely. Our
services start promptly at 10 am and generally are over no later than
noon. The first Sunday of the month we observe Holy Communion, which
may cause the service to extent a little past noon.
At New Beginnings, we are a caring community, an extended family, a
base for reaching out to others. Whether you are a new to the community,
a church veteran, a person who wants to take their spiritual life more
seriously, or just in need of a change, New Beginnings might be THE place
for you. Come as you are, even if you haven’t been to church in
a while.
With what denomination are you affiliated?
New Beginnings is an independent non-denominational church that is
not under the authority of any denomination. Our church is made up of
people who come from a diversity of religious and denominational backgrounds. New
Beginnings does not believe there is anything wrong with denominational
churches. We enjoy good relationships with churches of different
denominations and even enjoy an affiliation with the Mid-east
Baptist General Conference.
Do I have to dress-up to come to your
church?
We believe that God is more concerned about the heart
than the outward appearance
(1 Samuel 16:7). You do not have to feel compelled to
dress up in traditional Sunday attire. Casual dress is welcome and women
can feel free to wear pants. We do ask that you keep in mind that you
are attending a worship service and not dress in a way that may distract
people from worshiping God.
